Modern Round Rugs
Modern Round Rugs For Major Impact
For starters, think in terms of circular placement when using a rug of circular dimensions. In a living room, begin by placing the coffee table in the modern round rug’s center, and then positioning the rest of the furniture equally around the table and rug. A round setting such as this is perfect for a conversation area, because everyone can see one another equally.
Modern round rugs also work well in kitchens and dining rooms where tables are the main piece of furniture – as long as the area rug is larger than the longest side of the table. It isn’t necessary to have round tables to use round rugs. Simply be sure that the rug extends about two feet beyond the table. That way all the chairs will remain on the rug when they’re moved to let people sit down and get up.
The placement of kitchen or dining furniture on a round rug is the same as that of a conversation space. Center the round modern rug on the floor of the room, and then center the table on top of it. This arrangement usually works best in areas where there isn’t any additional furniture, such as a buffet, hutch, kitchen island or cabinets, in the same space with the rug and the table.
Small round rugs provide creative focus for a cozy reading spot as well. If the rug is large enough, both the chair and a table or reading lamp can be placed side by side on the rug. With small modern round rugs, try setting the chair on one edge of the rug to give the placement some interesting asymmetry. In addition, be sure to pair a rug of contrasting fabric, color and texture with the chair. For example, if the chair is upholstered in a patterned fabric, such as a hunter’s plaid, choose a solid-colored rug, or at most a rug with a border and a solid center. Conversely, if the chair has plain, solid-colored upholstery, choose a brightly colored rug or one with a striking pattern to break up the monotony.
Decorating with round rugs also provides a terrific way to break up the “white box” effect of many apartments and new homes. A large, colorful modern round rug in the living room can work wonders to give that “white box” some personality and interest. Echo the circular dimensions of the rug by using circular shapes in other furnishings such as round pillows, artwork with circles, round tables or circular mirrors. Some modern round rugs even make excellent wall decorations.
So it turns out that going round in circles may not be such a bad idea for home decorating after all, as long as it is with round modern rugs.
