Colorful Round Rugs

Colorful Round Rugs – Give Your Room A Makeover

When we moved into our home, the flooring was horrible.  In the master bedroom the color was a hideous washed-out blue that clashed with everything that we had to put into the room.  Since we were only going to be in the house for six months, we did not want to replace the carpeting, but I didn’t know if I could stand to look at it for half of a year.  Luckily we had a fabulous round bamboo rug.  Our king sized sleigh bed took up quite a bit of the floor space and our bamboo rug, that had previously been in our living room, covered much of the offensive carpet.

I learned a few things about the impact a rug can make in that house.  We are not carpet people.  Our living spaces are always hardwood, high-end laminate or tile. These floors are easy to clean and great with kids and families, but they do not have the warmth of carpet.  Our solution has been to have rugs.  Rugs are usually easy to clean and much more replaceable than a full house of carpet.  Great colorful round rugs can give definition to a room’s space and, especially with hard flooring, bring a warmth and depth to a living area.

What the horrible blue carpet lesson taught me was that rugs don’t need to stay in the living areas.  We generally carpet the bedrooms.  But even they can benefit from a well-placed colorful round rug.  Children’s rooms can have themed rugs that go with their decorating, or play rugs that give boundaries to help contain toys.  There are train track rugs and playhouse rugs.  There are bold brilliantly colored rugs and rugs to encourage counting or shape recognition.  Master bedrooms can benefit from a round rug placed to define a particular area of the room, for example a round colorful rug near a chair or two will signify, visually, that this space is a sitting area, separate from the sleeping area, even if they are right next to each other.

Colorful round rugs can really help bathrooms.  Long narrow bathrooms can appear wider when a round rug is placed in front of the vanity or bathtub.  Short boxy powder rooms can become more welcoming with the addition of the right round rug.  Besides providing a dry warm place to stand, colorful round area rugs give bathrooms a homier, less institutional feel.

Living rooms, dining rooms, dens, and family rooms can all benefit from a great rug.  Rugs can be used to cover problem areas in flooring until they can be fixed or replaced, as I did.  Round colorful rugs pull the corners of a room in, visually.  They soften the edges and create a more intimate, close-knit area to spend time with those you love.

Rugs can be made of cotton, wool, synthetic, or even bamboo.  Any colorful round rug you add can be a benefit to your decorating collection.  Who knows, your living room rug may prove to be just the thing for your master bedroom’s new look.
